Very interesting thread. I did think the bit about the difference between a 4-cylinder and a 6-cylinder car was a hoot! I was thinking along similar lines this weekend when I was riding in a friend's Mercedes. Oddly enough the view out of her window looked the same as from my Liberty and we got there in the same amount of time.

The supposed main thrust of the article is solid--delayed gratification and living within one's means.

However, it is loaded throughout with such serious fundamental misunderstandings of economics, the service sector, monetary policy, and market basics, that I could not recommend it for a primer. It also reeks of communism--class envy, distrust of corporations, "off the backs of the poor in China", lack of competitive spirit, etc.

The advice for investment is woefully lacking, advice for those starting out in life (probably the the main target for this type of piece) is completely absent. It is also too long.

Not recommended.

What offends me about this article is the implication that every man wants his wife to stay at home and raise children. Sorry but I actually enjoy my career and find fulfillment in it. I don't work so I can live an extravagant lifestyle. Believe it or not, not every woman dreams of staying home to raise children (um, remember the feminist movement?)

thank you for bringing up the sexist tone-he was clearly writing only to men and assuming that most men would want a ton of kids and a stay at home wife. He seemed a little bit of a zealot to me-some sound advice mixed with a lot of bizarre rhetoric. not for me.

Well, it takes all kinds. If he feels interest is evil, I'd love to borrow money from him next time I'm in in the market for a loan. It's funny how so many with same mind set displayed here, as aptly described by buzz, feel they've been wronged to some extent by "the system" or "the man", possibly both. It seems there is an inverse relationship between communistim/socialism and personal responsibility. Sorry, but if I'm in debt, it's usually my fault, barring extenuating circumstances, such as sick children and massive medical bills. Even in that case, it's just the way it is, not some evil banker/Bilderburger conspiracy.
