How to stop getting Bank and credit card offers in the mail?
I get so many of these offers in the mail, I never resopond to them but the junk mail keeps rolling in.
Is there a way to stop this stuff from coming to my house?
I found this link in a older thread. Is this the first step to take?
I never heard of this website before, is it legit?
Are there other websites that you guys know of?
https://www.optoutprescreen.com/opt_form.cgi
thanks,

Yes, it's legit. This is the official way to opt-out, either this site or their 1-800 number.
"All Opt-Out requests must be submitted through this website or through our toll-free telephone number, 888-567-8688"
Note: Opting out is good for 5 years. If you want to permanently opt-out, you have to follow up this request in writing. See FAQ on site for more information.

Also send a letter to the Direct Marketing Association:
Quote:
Start by sending a postcard or letter to Mail Preference Service, Direct Marketing Association, PO Box 643, Carmel, NY 15012-0643 Include your complete name, address, zip code and a request to "activate the preference service". For up to five years, this will stop mail from all member organizations that you have not specifically ordered products from.
The Direct Marketing Association estimates that listing with their mail preference service will stop 75% of all national mailings. They process 50,000 requests a month and requests are kept active for five years. If you fill out the post office change of address form, the DMA will track the new address (you'll get a few months of mailings to the new address before they catch up to you). It can take up to six months for your request to be fully processed. You can also opt-out online, but they charge $5. The best way is to fill out their online form, then mail them a printout.

Please start by calling the phone number listed above: 1-888-567-8688. That will tell the credit bureaus to not give your name to companies who buy mass-marketing lists from them. By cutting the CC companies, utility companies, etc off at the source, you don't have to rely on their voluntary compliance and you eliminate most of the jerks who are usng your personal financial information as a tool to sell you stuff.
Contact the Direct Marketing Association too, if you want to reduce other types of junk mail, but keep in mind that they have no effect on advertising sent to 'resident' and similar non-names.

Re: How to stop getting Bank and credit card offers in the mail?
I opted out a few months ago. The reduction in junk mail has been AMAZING! I saw a drop about a week after I did it online, and with in the month they stoped altogether. You can still get a stray one now and again, either from a company you already have a card/account with, or from someone working off an credit report they pulled before you opted out. But I went from 3 offers a DAY to one maybe every two weeks. It's given my shreader a breather!

Re: How to stop getting Bank and credit card offers in the mail?
Don't opt out! The post office relies on all this junk mail for its income. Of course I am kidding.
If it wasn't for all the 0% offers I get everyweek, I wouldn't get any mail half of the time. I actually like the preapproved offers, since there is no other way I would find out about all the good rebates and signup offers.
It does however put you at risk of having someone steal the offer and try to open an acct in your name.
