Sounds like everyone is ok.

Why don't you want to go through you insurance to pay for the repairs? If the cost of the repairs is close to your deductible then I can comprehend your decision, but otherwise you should utilize the insurance you pay for.

You have a newer vehicle and you currently have three choices 1. repair it cheaply 2. repair it properly (new parts vs used) 3. no repairs

Insurance option gives you the benefit of having new parts and also the ability to request a loss of value payment. When you go to sell your vehicle it has to be disclosed it was in an accident and that will lower its resale or trade in value so you have the right to claim that. I have never done it but have heard people talk about it.

I was at fault. My insurance will go up...we really can't afford that. If the repairs are out of this world I will go through insurnace, but if not I will just eat the cost. You are right about the insurance giving me options...we have used it before...just hate to see that premium go up anymore.

It was VERY minor (IMO). A ding in the front door (drivers side) and yes, I'm ok...I did not have my children in the car.

We have two cars and this one is still very much drivable, you really have to look to see the damage...so this too shall pass.

Thanks everybody, I will update you as things progress.

Okay, I think you said your vehicle is leased, yes? When does the lease expire and can you live with the dent until a couple months before that point?

I was driving dh's car. I recently found out that I do not have a lease (it sounds and feels like a lease to me) GMAC calls it a smart buy...it fits into lease for me because I only have the car for 4 years and can only put 60,000 on it...they claim I own the car...I just don't get it.

I think I'm just going to submit it to the insurance.

Time to save,

Glad to see that you are staying the fight. Life is a lot of work and when it rains it really pours sometimes. Hang in there and keep going!
