Does anybody know of a website (besides BBB) that list rip-off businesses. I'm looking into Global Home Marketing for online data entry jobs.

thanks

These sorts of jobs make me very suspicious. Tread carefully, especially if they want a lot of money up front. You might ask the Attorney General's office in Kentucky if they have had any reports of problems.

Actually, avoid any company that wants ANY money up front. You shouldn't have to PAY to get a job.

I agree, I've not applied (or paid) any company for a job. I see this company wants 10.00 up front, no thank you. I've been putting in applications left and right. I will get something.

Hi guys. Just wanted to let you know I have a second job. Right now it is only Saturday and Sunday mornings and only pays 7.50hr (10hrs each day). But it can and will work into more hours and will help me get out of this mess. Every little bit helps. Thank you all for the support, the best thing is that this job is on the weekends (I can take the kids to my sister's while I am working). Because it is on Sat/Sun mornings I can even look for something else in the evenings if I think it is necessary. Right now this just gives me hope. I can breathe easier. I cut my cell phone bill to 50.00 monthly (went down to the least amount possible) we had 21,000 rollover minutes that we were never going to use so that expense is cut by 2/3! I am constantly looking for other ways to cut corners (but not at the expense of my dd) I think this is going to give me a little room to move.

It feels good to see a problem face it, deal with it, and defeat it. I've been running from these sorts of things for so long I'd forgotten that there is a solution for everything in life. I really appreciate all of you.

Yipee!!! So happy to hear about the job...and quick too! That turns into $600 a month gross! I think you'll be amazed at how quickly that money will change things for you.

And...you are still working your finances from both ends. Money going out and in. Good thinking on that cell phone bill, too.

We appreciate you too. Take care and let us know how it changes things.

This is part of her financial problems. She sold a few laptops to a person who sent her a bad check and she is out the cash and laptops.

Good suggestion though, it just didn't work for her.

Update. I misunderstood. The job is 10hrs in total for Sat/Sunday (5 hrs. daily) but it still is something. I am still looking for something that will give me more hours/money, maybe an evening job. I've never placed this many applications for jobs so far below my level (none of these jobs require a BS) but it is only part-time...feels funny applying for these types of jobs. I've also decided to go back to school (a benefit) and work on my Master's...might as well, I will be here anyways and it is free, it can only increase my pay base and allow me to do more for my family. It will take two years (if I go to school over the summer).

Glad to hear about the job.

Choosing to work a second job that is below your skills/experience level can make very good financial sense at times.

You can make the hours/pay go a long way if you can get a job at a place where you buy your household necessities AND where you get an employee discount on products that are a basic part of your bare bones budget. Places like Walmart, K-Mart, grocery stores and Big Lots can often provide a combination of pay check and employee discount that can really help stretch your family budget dollars.

I have a friend who's a Chemical Engineer who used to work a few hours a week pre-Christmas as The Body Shop because she had already planned on giving Body Shop gift baskets as holiday gifts. Another friend who was getting ready to sell their house took a part time job at Home Depot because they knew they would need to be buying paint and various other house fix up items.

Both of them actually really enjoyed having a few hours of work a week that weren't the standard corporate grind.

Nope, Nov 4th (dd's birthday...I just hate that!) but it is only in the AM, hopefully she will still be asleep I meet with HR tomorrow (31st). I just applied for admission to the Master's program...onward and upward

Well, Saturday was day one. This is the dumbest job I've ever had. That this young man thought he had to explain this over and over was insulting! But I made it through. I only got in 4 hours Saturday and he told me I did not need to come in on Sunday. I need to crunch the numbers...I'm not sure where I should draw the line...what is too low of an amount to make in a day for this not to be worth my time. I have to be up and out of my house by about 5AM and I drive about 30 miles (one way) just to get in 4 hrs at 7.50hr? I'm not sure this is the right job for me. I work both Sat/Sunday next week but only Sunday the week of Thanksgiving. It looks as if the time he promised is not going to come to light. The hours are dependent on how much work needs to be done...and they keep those tight. I understand that policy with the nature of the work but I have to be smart about this. I really like the hours of this job because I can work REALLY early in the morning, which will not disrupt my time on the weekends with my kids. Not to mention I was told to be there at 6:30am, and wound up waiting until 7:00am...boy that made me mad

I can understand your disappointment. I think it is definitely good to be considering the actual hours you will get to work. I too would be unhappy if promised 10 hours and only worked 4 hours. I would give it another week or two to decide. In the meantime, I would keep looking for another alternative. If a better one comes along, take it.

In a situation like this would you give three weeks or just move on?

You shouldn't throw away a job you already have until you can find another one. Right now it looks like the cost of gas and car maintenance alone will almost wipe out anything you make, but I know some jobs won't let you work much the first few weeks until they can determine your reliability. Eg: movie theater, won't give me any hour the first week and then 4 hours on the second week. I still think it's too much to drive 60 miles round trip just to make $23. You should also look into mystery shopping, a shop taking about 1 hr (include drive time) should give you around $15.

I've just read through the whole entire thread and while it's unfortunate that I'll be harping on the same issue so many people said in here, but I just want to point out something. When I was 9 and overheard my parents talking about saving money and my dad had to work more hours, I was worry sick. I tried to give them the money I have from new year gifts and didn't ask for a single thing for months because I was scared that we won't have food to eat. I also remember feeling pretty guilty that I asked for things before and well, put 2 and 2 together and it became my fault. Your daughter is 11 now so she knows a lot more. How do you think she feels knowing that she get her ride and you can't pay the electric bill?
