Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
I was listening to the radio and I heard a commercial for John Commuta's Turning Debt into Wealth System. I was just wondering if anybody has heard of him. I have researched him on the internet and everyone says that his message is nothing new. Just wanted to know.

Re: Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
Another one of the financial management gurus, ala Dave Ramsey, who does a thriving business in selling books and tapes outlining his "system." Nothing particularly novel to offer (aside from a charismatic delivery).
1. Cut your spending
2. Pay off the credit cards
3. Invest 20% (or whatever) of all that you earn.
4. Live on the remaining 80% (or whatever)
You can get the same advice other places and practice his principles by not buying his materials.

Re: Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
Heh heh, BeforeFreedom, that's pretty funny.
It is true though that the basic ideas aren't that complex, it is the DOING it that is hard for most people.
Myself, I sometimes like to read basic financial books (from the library) because they help to reinforce what I'm doing and that makes me feel good. Kinda an antidote to advertising and what 'everybody else' is doing.
Regards,
Elizabeth

I do that myself. I even read the ones from the authors that I generally disagree with.
By the way, it's "be for freedom".

Ooooo, I'm finding this too...every day that I visit this website or do some more financial research I find that I'm less apt to even want to spend money. Days, I am not able to or don't read something, I find it's a lot easier to spend.
Sorry for hijacking, I haven't about him either....

I've heard his commercials but I've never bothered to find out what it's about. Thanks for letting us know!

Re: Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
Hi folks! Hurd2390 here, and I am new to the scene! I actually sent off for the whole John Commuta program two years ago and it really works if you let it. The "turning debt into wealth" theory is basically setting aside extra money and pay off one bill at a time. Then when that bill is paid off take the money for that bill plus the extra money and pay off another bill. He wants you to only have one credit card and freeze it in water in the freezer for an emergency!
The plan will work if you let it...wish I would have thought of it!!!
Look forward to sharing more with you all. I have my own business now and am really excited about it!

Re: Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
That sounds just like the Dave Ramsey book, but he calls it the snowball method. I have never heard of John commuta!

Re: Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
I have some of his books and tapes if I'm thinking of the right guy...he, Like Me, hates debt and encourages you to get out from under it. I'm thinking he was around before Dave Ramsey became the latest guru, which is why some of you may not of heard of him.

Gosh, Dave has been around quite a while! Sounds like that both think the same way.

Re: Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
I think they're both from around the same time, mid 90's
And Elizabeth I do the same thing, the most common re-reader for me is "The Richest Man in Babylon." I just never get tired of going back over that one.

Oh Rexdart - The Richest Man In Babylon - It's right there next to my bible on the nightstand. I reread it ALL THE TIME!!
An absolute FAVE!! Have about 6 or 7 other copies of it laying around the house...ready to give away at the first inkling that someone's having money troubles.

Re: Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
I just put THe Richest Man in Babylon on my library list for tomorrow. I think this is the 3rd or 4th thread I've seen it on -- must be good.
We just sent a copy of Total Money Makeover home -- one to my side of the family via my baby sister first, and one to DHs side via his baby bro. Let them take advantage of having youth on their side (Baby of the family is 22 my sis/ 26 his bro). Then hopefullythey'll pas it on to the other siblings and parents.

Re: Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
There are ads on the radio here lately for John Commuta stuff. I'd heard the name previously, but couldn't tell you the context.
Does "The Richest Man in Babylon" have religious tones to it?

No religious overtones whatsoever. It uses ancient Babylon as its setting in order to demonstrate that the principles of money management are as old as merchantile civilization. The tone is light and anecdotal, but the message is memorable. Short (144 pages) and highly recommended.

I don't mean this to come across in a poor manner but I have to ask...
what in the world does that have to do with anything?

Re: Anyone ever heard of John Commuta?
When I read a book on personal money management, I do not want to read religious stuff. If it bothers you that I even asked I will balance it by asking this:
Does the bok have any references to that sci-fi TV program Babylon 5? (My reason for asking is that I hated that show and would not want to read about it in a book about personal money management.....Heh-heh-heh.
