Default What junk do you collect?

Do you have a dvd collection? A vhs collection? Beanie-Baby collection?

How much money have you spent on your collection? Do you view it as an investment? A hobbie? Do you think it'll pay off?

I have a ton of books, not an investment, not purchased as a hobby - just trying to use the library from now on cause I don't know how to get rid of them.

Do have videos and DVD's. I bought a DVD recorder to try and transfer the videos. They aren't all purchased, and you know I won't be able to find the minute to minute transmission of the LA earthquake or the OJ Simpson Trial. Definately not bought or recorded as an investment.

I have all the stuffed animals I had as a kid + a few bought when I was younger, until I decided that it wasn't really adult to keep buying them, they were never an investment, but I am not getting rid of them.

I have many collections of junk - no sense for the profit motive in what I buy and enjoy, I guess.

our collections are for fun... we have DVD's and i have lots of clothes... DH has a few mini collections including 6or 7 small pyramids, 2-3 chunks of amythyst (his birthstone), etc... other than that i'd say he mostly "collects" stuff like cool pictures from online... pictures of cars, cool gadgets, etc... we don't spend much on our collections at all... none of our DVD's were bought new... all were $5 or less used at garage sales... ditto most of the newer pieces of his mini collections... i don't know if it counts as collecting but i do have a shelf of cross stitch pattern books... that's all i can think of off the top of my head...

I quit collecting things unless I'm getting them for free. Right now, it's stuff to get ready to grow (seeds, etc) over the winter to plant in the yard. Guess it's my age, just not interested in buying much of anything these days unless I have to, so that means hobbies and entertainment must be free or next to nothing or I'm not interested. I don't even want to look at new stuff. When I'm bored out of my mind, it's a thrift store, the key is to stay off ebay or away from anywhere that's in the least bit tempting. Movies I get from the library, magazines for free, cook at home, etc. I absolutely love getting stuff for free but I also have no problem cleaning the house and garage out when I get tired of stuff and giving it all away.

DH has a garage full of junk! (but he is selling some, or trying to, and the car does fit, and he is really cute, so I don't mind .)

I on the other hand have books...lots of books, that I try to thin out now that I notice how little a book is reread..and I recently borrowed a book I know I own from the library, cause it was in front of me, and I have no idea where my copy is! silly of me to dust my copy/store it when the library has one!!!!

Oh we do have some DVDs, I am not mpressed with my librarys collection..but hten I am not impressed with most of mine either

We don't have any purchased collections, but we are being slowly overrun by swag!!!

DH travels a lot for work, and there's usually a vendor expo. I can't tell you how many pens, stress balls, note pads, packs of post-its, tote bags, and other assorted company-logo detritus I have!

We're drowning in tchotchkes!!!

I like to collect vintage item for the home with the "big city" them. I found an old union station hanging clock from the train station in Chicago. I also found old vintage doorknobs from San Francisco. I am trying to find very old photographs of the big cities before they bloomed.

It’s sort of a symbol for me to have a big city theme but I love vintage so I combine them. Big cities have always provided opportunities for the deaf and so that is inspiring for me. I try to keep it a minimum of one item for each city if I can help it. I do not like clutter so I try to find things I can use in the home in practical ways. The old doorknobs were screwed into a distressed wood for a coat rack for an example.

I have a collection of hummels all over 30 years old. I would love to sell them. My dh started a beer can collection and has about 600 different cans in the garage on shelves. I got into the beenie baby craze too and wish I had not. I have about 100 of them. I have gone with the wind plates. I love civil war stuff and have a few things including Gen sherman's signature! I would love to sell all of it except the civil war things!

Not really, I paid over $100 for every hummel I own. One is really rare and I paid close to $1000 for it. Some of the hummels were over $200, it is based on how old they are and mine are all at least 30 years old. I would be glad to sell for what I have in them.

So that's what a hummel is. Learn something new everyday.

Clown fish refridgerator magnets. And I swear I started collecting them before Nemo. I have about 15. They are probably worth nothing, but I like them.

I have never understood why people buy lots of DVDs. They take up space, they are ugly, and most people don't seem to play them more than once or maybe twice... but to each his/her own.

I was collecting bears. Both the plush and the poly resin Cherished Teddies. Whenever my husband wanted to buy a gift, he got me a bear. That was fine, but now I have too many. I have donated a lot of the plush ones to my school to use as prizes. I had at one time hoped Cherished Teddies would be worth something, but I've checked Ebay here and there, and they really aren't worth a whole lot. Now what I would like to collect is cold, hard, cash!

I have to agree rob. I thought that beenie babies would go up in value, but they haven't. Hummels cost a lot, but it is very difficult to sell. i would rather collect the cold hard cash too!!
