Even though I used to work for Capital One, I honestly don't know the answer to your question, mostly because the cards vary one from another. I'm sure it's on the website somewhere, or at least in your terms & conditions.
I will say one thing about Capital One rewards cards, though: If you EVER ask for them to close your account, and they click the "close" button, you have lost any unredeemed points forever -- even if they click "reopen" two seconds later. The scary thing is that this system "glitch" (although I'm not sure if it's really a glitch) is unknown by most of the call center employees. It's simply not widely publicized. I didn't learn about it until I had already worked there 18 months, after becoming a supervisor and getting calls where people wanted to know why they no longer had any points to redeem. Really bad news, in my opinion.
