Default Who is in charge of family finances?

Who is in charge of your family finances??@I am by default...although I want help with them, I just get a roll of eyes whenever I try to discuss a budget or our spending. Does anyone else have this problem?

DH and I are partners. He writes a check to me for half his income each month. he takes care of the mortgage, property taxes and business taxes, and I take care of the rest. When it comes to big financial decisions we make them together. We've been this way since we've been together.

I am the money manager in our house. I do all the bill paying, investing, major planning for our money. We do discuss major issues though. He is a bit more freeing with his money than I like.

Being a single mom, I am in charge of the money by default...but, until very recently I was in charge of my parents finances, and I hated it!...they did not want to adjust to the fact that they don't have enough money to splurge and, they at times took the position of: It is my money, why should YOU say how I should spend it?? (..er, because my sis and I will be the ones stuck cleaning up the mess??)

I handle the long-term planning but we discuss every aspect of it together before we make a decision. She handles grocery shopping, household things, bills. We talk about almost every single purchase we make and if it's big, we make sure we discuss it beforehand. It's important that both people are sharing the load - would be cruel to have that weight squarely on one person's shoulders.
