Default Call from Chase - Just don't need it.

A year ago, Chase purchased my mortgage from the existing company I had. They aren’t very good at doing their job. When I called them with a question three months ago, they said that they didn’t have my insurance information, my home phone number, and my employer information. I told them to go back to my application and copy it from that. They said they didn’t have that either. I found this a little worrisome. But, anyhow, this is not the point of my story.

In two weeks they are opening a new Chase Bank near me. Today a representative called and said something like, “Hi, I’m so and so and I’m your loan officer. When you opened the loan with us, it appears we didn’t go over a lot of stuff.”

“That’s funny, because you guys assumed my loan.” I replied.

“Do you have a minute to go over some things?”

“A short minute...”

“One of the things we ALWAYS make available to everyone that takes a mortgage from Chase is a HELOC…”

I cut him short with “I don’t need it.”

“Why not?”

“I just don’t need it.”

“Why not? It’s available to you for 10 years. If you ever need…”

I cut him off again, “I just don’t need it.”

This went on for like 3 minutes. Every time, I said, “I just don’t need it.”

He finally got really pissed and hung up on me. My wife, who was listening, just laughed. All during lunch we just made jokes that ended with, “I just don’t need it.”

But seriously, why do I need it? And, let’s assume that I did need it, wouldn’t I go find the company with the best deal? Certainly, that company would probably not be Chase.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share that story with you. My new mantra in life is now, “I just don’t need it.”

You know, I pay a little more, but when I borrow to buy property, I always stay, in house. I do not let them sell me off. I know I will pay it off much quicker than the mortgage note says and I can make my payments in person and talk to the president if I need to. ( I know him)

It's the mentality thing again. Some people just don't get why you'd pass up 'free money'...like there is such a thing!!
