It's accurate for my parent's house and my boyfriend's parents house (they just sold their's last summer) in a suburb of Rochester NY.

It's also accurate here in central NJ for one of the families I babysit for.

Well if you are planning on staying in the house you want it appraized less than what you think it should because you want your property taxes low!!! You only want a high appraizal if you are moving otherwise get a low one!!! I never understood why people want to think thier homes are worth more when they are not even gonna sale it just dont make sense to me.

BTW for zillow.com my neighborhood wont even come up but I know my home probably hasnt increased much in value just because of the other houses around me & what they have sold for.

My house won't come up on zillion. I looked it up at the tax assessor's office, but it is apprised way below what I would take for it!

Snoopy, you make a lot of sense and I was just thinking the same thing. The county I live in, there is a town of mostly low income and minority home owners. Few years ago, they protested to the county that they were being discriminated racially as the county had assessed their property below market. County took this complaint and used it to reassess all properties in the county and my property tax doubled as result.
