I have what may be a stupid question. Do debit cards have a daily withdrawal limit and if so, how much is it? I assume that it may vary from bank to bank if there is one. Where would I go to find this information? Thanks.

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe there is. That is, when you swipe and punch in your PIN number, it checks to see if you actually have enough to make that purchase. If not, you get declined. The exception is if you have overdraft protection line of credit. However, I don't have that, but I would assume (though I really shouldn't assume) that it will dip into that and allow you to make the purchase.
On a couple of occasions, I've made purchases with my debit card that wasn't able to go through. Glitches about when my paycheck is deposited I think. They would simply switch it to a credit card purchase, and it'll go through. Again, I could be wrong because I've only been declined on a couple of occasions. If so, please correct me if I am, gang. ![]() |

This is a question you should really ask your bank. Call the number on the back of your card; the representative you talk to should be able to answer this for you.
I work for a bank and our daily withdrawal limit for debit cards is $1500.00. That doesn't mean it'll let you overdraw your account, but if you needed to make a large purchase with your card, you could. We also can up your limit for a day or two if you need access to more than $1500.00 |

I don't have one, but I am glad someone asked the question. I learn so
much here. |

I don't have a spending limit...just a $200/day cash withdrawl limit

For some it's a limit per ATM ($200 per atm per day).
The better question is "can I have a limit placed on my card to protect myself from me?" Like a $40/week limit. There's a great idea! |

my boyfriend still has a student checking account from when he was in college through bank of america (formerly fleet, when he opened it). He has a $500/day limit.

Check with your bank as there are several limits with ATM/Debit cards...
There is a limit for online transactions (when all systems are correctly talking to each other) And offline transation limits (when they are not) There is a daily ATM withdrawal limit- when you get cash out the machines...and some use a true daily limit- while others groups Fri, Sat and Sun as one day. And a daily spending limit- For purchases and such Then there are limits on checks you deposit into ATM, that could limit how much you are able to take out the first few days after a deposit. You should have gotten this info when the account was opened, but there might have been changes since you opened your account....so the best bet, call your bank. Good luck! |

"Check with your bank" seconded. Ours is $1000 a day as long as we have the funds. Not that we get that much out at a time. Too risky.
