Default help: student loans payback advice?

My husband has a large student loan that was consolidated after he graduated in 2004. The private loans $28,000 were not consolidated at a fixed rate, and has gone up significantly over the past few years (from 4 to 8.75%). It has gotten crazy and the consolidators said there's nothing they could do...it'll be 1+ prime.

The federal loans have stayed around 3.% $20,000

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Default Re: help: student loans payback advice?

i would call vanguard.... they can answer any financial question that you may have.... they probably can direct you to some solutions... the local bank does not have the update education that vanguard provides for their employees.... my dil has a loan that they have been repaying for 8 years now.. she negotiated with them to lower the rate, or she would not pay and they did.. so, you may want to try that... my dil gets everything lowered, cable, cell phones, whatever, she just shuts them off and then complains big time and they resolve it right away.. she used to work for an attorney for years, prior to marrying my son... now, she has her own home based business and works at my gd's school... but, she is highly college educated, i don't know, how many degrees she has and she is big on volunteering... she did binky patrol, in ohio when she lived here, she was president, it helps elderly ppl. she is a great motivational speaker.. in nc she does meals on wheels and other charities.. i cannot keepup with her.....
