With a woman's eggs now worth thousands of dollars, would you consider selling your eggs for the money? If I were younger, I think I would consider this although I'm not sure if I would actually go through with it.

No, I don't think that hormone stuff is really safe.

If i were younger i would definitely consider it, tho it's not without some inconvenience, including daily self-injections.

No. I knew a gal who was considering selling her eggs to get money for a boob job!
Reading through that article, I find it interesting that a 28 y.o. DC lawyer with $175k in student debt thinks she is going to pay down her debt with successive rounds of egg donation at 8k-10k a pop. What the hell ever happened to actually working? |

I would think about it after I was done having children. I don't think I would do it in the end, but I would look into it.

wonder if you can do this if you have had your tubes tied? I would consider this but I had a tubal so no sure if it work for me I think it would but not for sure. But to get ahead financially & to help a childless person I would

My first thought at the title was selling your "nest egg" to pay off the bills, lol! Honestly I wouldn't be comfortable with this, with the overflowing foster care system there are so many unwanted children that I sometimes thing infertility is a message to a person that they're really not supposed to have children.
Again, just a personal thought, and now, I wouldn't sell mine.. kj |

Have gone through infertility treatment- no way. You have to take the hormones every day for weeks through injection.

Well, I didn't think next egg, but at least I am not the only person that didn't get "it" right away.

A friend of mine actually sold some eggs back in 1999. She received 12,000.00 for 2 years of treatments (hormones, etc) and now she totally regrets it. She had two "successful" eggs which yielded her the dough BUT now (2006) that she WANTS to have children, she is having multiple issues including cysts and all sorts of troubles (hirsutism, etc).

That is pretty serious. Sorry to hear that. I meant to say, nest egg in my last post, not next egg.

i have 3 birth children, and 1 step child. im 33 and im in debt up to my eyeballs. id consider doing it to get out of debt one or 2 or 3 times. depends on how hard it would be to quilify. when i read the artical, i did look on the craigslist thing to see if there was anyone around this area paying for that. but i couldnt find anyone. so i guess i cant even check into it.
oh well..it was a thought. but i guess its not going to work for me. ericka |

If you've had a tubal ligation (tubes tied), you're still releasing eggs every month and your eggs are still intact, so you can still donate eggs. The important points are you must be aged 29 or less, you must have a pretty impressive resume (educational background, or at least high scores on standardized tests, and be able to present yourself very well, interview well, and be very attractive in appearance to future couples/women interested in paying $20,000 for some of your eggs) - it is very much a beauty contest from what I've read. My thinking is that the type of women these companies want to donate their eggs, are precisely the type of women who probably would not need the money in the first place, so I'd think the ideal woman's eggs they're looking for are going to be a very rare find.

12000.00 for two successful batches... WOW. That is crazy money - but if it was to affect a woman who was going to consider children of her own in the future, I don't think it would be worth it at all.. yeesh....
