I wonder why people think that a college education is the key to great eggs???? Yes, i would do it but am to old now, (38). To me not much differnet than a guy donating. Except for the injections. I would say that you don't want a drug addict or anything but I would say as long as you are healthy and mentally stable that should be okay. I know some people that are really smart and have some less smart children.

How do the hormones lead to fertility problems and excessive hairiness... and death? It's nothing more than a woman going through IVF herself, correct? I work with a woman who was trying to conceive for 3 years through IVF -- is it a different process to donate to a stranger vs. to take eggs to fertilize and put back in your own body?

PS,
I'm sure the DC lawyer is making a lot of money as she is working in the DC area, but an extra 30k would help cut down on that 175k loans. I am 22, a college graduate, I had a 1320 on the SATs. Even with my 16k left in undergrad loans, and anticipated 20k for my master's degree (more bonus points as a 'donor'), I can't say I'd do it myself though, as it is an invasive procedure. I can barely handle donating blood to the Red Cross without getting woozy/lightheaded. ![]() |

In Australia it is illegal for a woman to sell her eggs. It is done by donation only. If you donate eggs you can ask for expenses to be reimbursed but that is all. So even if I wanted to make money I wouldn't be able to.

Personally, I am currently pregnant with my third child, and we have had such a tough road with having children that we have decided to get fixed so we won't have that issue besides 3 children are plenty. Since We have decided to tie our tube and all anyhow why not sell my eggs so that people can get what they want and if I get some cash to compensate, then why not. I mean I can get out of some of the debt that I am in. Yeah there are risks but everything has risks. even walking down the way on the sidewalk.

i can give a point of view, secondhand on this subject... our good friend shari, donated her eggs many times.... she was raped by several men, when she worked in ohio and she could not have a relationship with her finance any longer... so, she did not want any kids of her own... it has destroyed her life... she holds down a job, but, went to live in her parents basement.. she is very insecure...
i would sell my eggs if i really needed the money... my sister could not have kids and she asked me to be a surrogate for her... my spouse said no way.. anyway, she finally had a daugher on her own... she donates eggs too. i don't know if she would sell them... i think it would have to be a personal choice on an individual basis to donate or sell eggs.. |

My sister did this...her family really needed the $$. She already had had all 3 of her kids and had to have a partial historectmy (sp?) anyway because of fibriods. So she was done having kids so didn't have to worry about that. The money really helped, but I would worry about long term health risks of the hormones. We already have a high risk of cancer in my family, ovarian, cervical, breast....so personally no for me. I hope my sister gets the screening yearly, but at the time she was willing.

I'm a journalist for a local newspaper in London, and I wondered if anyone who has sold or is considering selling their egg would like to talk to me in order to construct a feature outlining the advantages and disadvantages of egg donation. Drop me an email. thanks x

Not that I'm supporting selling eggs, because I'm not, but I can certainly see the appeal of taking 8K bites out of that tremendous debt load.

I fear that science is quickly outstriping our moral sensibilities. It is all getting rather worrisome!

I hate needles, so self-injections would be out. I have two friends who have used donated eggs to conceive, but I wouldn't do it.
