Default Who would you ask for advice?

Who would you ask for advice on money, saving, budgeting, etc? A rich person or a poor person?

neither I dont take advice from anyone about my money I have taken care of it all by myself.

BTW keep in mind the person you think is poor may actually have alot more money than the person you think is rich so you never know

But I have had so many people try to advise me in my lifetime about money I quit taking it cause alot of times they dont know your exact situation or they only have thier own interest at heart. ANd sometimes things have changed since they have had issues of their own. KWIM

I used to go to my parents, particularly my dad, since his temperment and personality was closer to mine than my mom. Now that dad has died, I still go to mom with all big decisions.........even some that could be considered small I guess. It helps me to have someone to listen to my pro & con about a decision.
I do use my dads younger brother now, for counsel re; everything, not just finances. He is very wise & I respect his opinion. I just need to force him to give it to me......being an old Norwegian, he keeps most of his ideas to himself. Asking for his opinion and advice has given me a great way to keep in touch with him too, so it serves a couple purposes.
My parents & my uncle have lived in such a way to not ever have a mortage, or credit card bills that weren't paid for the month they were generated. Good role models!

What does KWIM mean? The reason I am asking is that I "talk" on a forum that is based in my hometown. When we discuss money, i get responses like, well you can't take it with you. These are from people who live pay check to paycheck and don't even have a savings account. It irks me to see these people giving out financial advice and telling others that the advice I give is stupid.
I know that a lot of people we think are rich, are not> We have built houses for them and they never have money, just the means to borrow.
I may not be rich, but I am very comfortable, they still have to borrow money from their parents to buy groceries and drive $500 cars.

I just have to ignore the majority of people and money advice, especially when I want to give it to them, lol! I watch my best friend scrape just to get by when she wastes SO MUCH on so many silly things, and to watch her pay extra on a car loan that's 6% when she has 10,000 on CC's at %25 and %30 drives me NUTS! But then what do I know

I just remind myself that I've got my own money to divvy up bill wise and savings wise, then I go outside and shovel manure or other physical work to get it out of my system, lol!

I have a friend whose sister always pays the late charges on everything like her car payment. We try to give her advice but she won't take it.

I have tried to ask advice from my parents but honestly, they never really seem to have the answers. They're not poor by any means.
I have just became interested in my finances when I joined this group. Prior to, I was just winging it and hoping everything would be okay. I guess whenever I need advice, I just come here. This is the best place and I've never found another group like this one. Everyone is very friendly and I have learned a ton.
To directly answer your question, I would ask the person that seems to be concerned about their finances and not making foolish purchases. They might be rich or poor.

Snoopy you're a person after my husband's own heart! He thinks like you do and doesn't watch the debt shows or watches his FICO score, etc. He feels people tell you what you want to hear but wouldn't do half of what they say if they were in a pinch. I, on the other hand, am always looking for ways to save or lessen our debtload. Evidently it is working for my husband as he has paid off all his debt as of November, 2005 and I won't be credit card free until this November, 2006 LOL. I can explain mine though as I am the one who looks out after the "kids" hee hee! No...I'm the one buys for our 3 sons because I want to surprise them a lot.

I would ask the advice of a person I see living the life I want to live and not boasting about it.

Well I dont watch my fico much either but last time I checked it was around 800 & I also buy for my kids more than my dh I have 3 girls but dh drives a brand new truck btw he has no money ever all goes to this truck.

I drive an 99 taurus that is now wrecked including over 100 k miles on it but when I buy for the kids I buy like I did today I go to the 75-90 percent off valentines sales!! Hey my kids were thrilled my 5yr old goes I love valentines day SHH dont tell her its not today LOL she really thinks it is cause thats when she get stuff. I also bought thier cards for next year. I have learned all this by myself not by asking anyone for advice when I did ask for advice I always felt I was screwed thats when I was young though & had just got an inheritance.

The only person I ask for financial advice (besides here ) is my dad. Even if I do get advice elsewhere, I still run it by him. He's neither rich or poor, but manages his money very, very well. I wish more of that would have rubbed off on me, lol!

I have rarely asked in real life advice about money. I read and learned alot myself plus my parents have set a good example. I did help my parents with some money planning and directing them when they asked as I was in the financial services industry.
