My husband and I are going to open a stock account. We're thinking about going with Sharebuilder. I just wanted to see what everyone else was using to make sure I've covered all of my basis.

I use companies that have DRIP programs. (dividend re investment program.) I buy directly from the company, example: home depot and wendy's.

Opening a SB account is a great move. But be aware of the catch. You pay $4 to buy stocks, but you have to pay $16 to sell stocks. Also, your buy order only goes through on Tuesdays. If you plan on doing lots of long-term buying and holding, and very little selling, Sharebuilder is the way to go. Be sure to get a promo code when you sign up for bonus $$.
If, on the other hand, you plan on doing more real-time buys and sells, take a look at Scottrade. $7 per trade. |

I used Edward Jones for large purchases, but they are expensive, $50 to buy or sell.

Thanks for your input. I think we'll go with Scottrade. We're going to do some trades that we aren't going to want to wait until Tuesday to trade and not wanting to pay $14+ to do real time trades. Thanks for all the help guys.
