That's pretty broad. Medium risk can mean different things to different people. Also your time horizon and the amount you have to invest are factors. However, here are some ideas to get started:
1. Municipal bonds - Free of federal taxes and usually state and local taxes too 2. S&P 500 index fund - Large companies are arguably undervalued right now 3. Foreign ETF - iShares:Japan (EWJ), for example. Earn a return from the ETF but also from the falling dollar. |

Vanguard star is a good fun, with not much risk. i put some money in for my brother in law about 12 years ago and he has tripled his money!

I am using some mutual funds from American Funds. The track record is very good in my opinion. You don't see advertisements from them, because they do not advertise in the mainstream, which keeps the expenses low. It was recommended to me by my financial planner and after investigating the family of funds, the returns over the long- and short-terms are consistently better than market averages in almost all categories.
