My mother retired in 1991 and was part of a union which pays her a pension.

Today, I call the pension administrators to ask if they are offering a Medicare Rx plan to the retirees. I was told no, but the retirees are free to use the drug discount card given as a perk. This was news to me so I asked for more info. Apparently, this card saves the pensioner an additional 10% after any copays! Can be used with any plan! Just hand the card to the pharmacist. Even good on mail order!

She's been retired 14 years and this was the first I heard about it! Not only that but this perk is also for those not yet retired. I could just SPIT! While this savings wouldn't have made her rich, it's still nice.

Moral of the story: ASK your pension, union, association, office manager, benefits manager, and anyone else if you're entitled to ANY possible benefit.
