Ima Saver, being new to computers, you may not be up on the iPod, but I download the free 1-hour podcast of his show everyday and listen to it on my way to work in the morning the next day.

I am a Ramsey fan, just for the fact that he is a no-nonsense and in-your-face kind of guy. His math principles do not necessarily provide the best benefit, but I agree with the majority of you who claim that dealing with DEBT and SPENDING is tied to behavior.

While most of us here are intelligent enough to know that you will save more money to pay off the high interest debts first. "Killing" the small debts (regardless of the interest rate), as Dave preaches, does give someone with low esteem and a seemingly unsurmountable pile of debt some encouragement.

He is a great starting point for those who need to get a swift kick in the pants.

I just like to listen to all of the stories that people call in to his show with.

He does mention time and again that he recognizes that math is not the reason he pushes the smallest debt first. He's an extremely skilled real estate investor and savvy businessman. He actually has quite a gift with numbers. He could calculate, compute, compare and contrast financials better than 99% of his critics who spout off the 'bad math' thing. The thing that's impressive about his approach is the fact that he sees the psychology as so overriding, even when he is truly a numbers' man.

Ehadden, I don't even know what an Ipod is. I don't know anything about computers, but I do like Dave Ramsey. I e mailed his show and they sent me a list of radio stations to try and get his show. Most of the shows are 100 miles away, but I will try.

Ima, If you are on this site with a high speed connection you can listen the the Dave Ramsey archive shows (the last 14 or so shows) on your PC for free. I am doing it right now. Just go to his Daveramsey.com site click on "The Dave Ramsey Show" link on the left. Then click on "listen on-line/on-line streaming" button then click the "Listen to the Archives" link....then pick a show and listen. If you can post 700+ times on this site then you can for sure listen online while you do it! I am doing it right now, Good luck

Ahh, the one man who got me started on my path to frugal living! Without him, I never would have known how to try to pay down my debt! The stories are great too! May I be a story on the DR show someday!!

Re: Dave Ramsey - Any Thoughts?

Last night I started looking at the numbers, far as how much I should be able to save, and it turns out that I should be debt free by June 1 of this year. Its going to feel great when I don't have any more debt. My car is the only debt I have now and I'm on track to have that paid off 1 year 4 months early. I should be starting to save for a down payment at the first of the year. I also want to say is that I hear it from time to time that "I only make $20,000 I can't save" or "I don't have any money". I want to say to those people that I only make about $23,000 and I can change my life and in 2 years have paid off my debt which total is about $16,000 plus during the 2 years I have been doing a 2% in a 401k and $50 in a Roth each month. So if I can do it anyone can do it.

I need to get into the 21st century here and get an IPod. Smart looking inventions they are. Where do you download the Dave Ramsey Show from?

you don't have to purchase an ipod, you can listen to the show online for free. you can also burn the show to a cd as well. of course if you want to buy an ipod you can do that too, but it's not necessary to hear his show. just an option.

DR helped get us on the right track to debt repayment, only we snowballed our debts based on interest rate not size. We paid off $30,000 last year, and we have another $30,000 to go. He's got a good, generic idea that should work for everyone, but he says time and time again that it is personal finance, so you have to control it yourself.

You can listen to Dave live at his website by just clicking on the "listen live" He airs M-F 2-5pm Monday thru Friday. You should have media player already on your computer so there is no need for an ipod.

He also archieves his show for the past two weeks and just click on archieve to listen when you want.

I just finally bought one of his books (used, lol) for my mother in law, but have skimmed it first and am especially impressed with his positive attitude AND how realistic he is, I just SO HOPE that I can get MIL to at least look at it and admit to her problem before it's to late!

I plan to start listening to his shows for additional reinforcement!

You'll enjoy his show. It's entertaining and education. I think he calls it "edutainment" actually

I wish I could get him on the radio but I tried all the stations and they are pretty bad. I can get him on my computer, but it does not turn up very loud. I can sit and listen , but I can't do anything else, like walk on my treadmill. My computer is upstairs in one bedroom, so there is not much else I can do but sit and listen.
