I thought about getting one at the beginning of the year, but decided not to because the interest they were paying was so low. Now I really wish I had since I haven't saved enough money. Do you think Xmas club accounts are a good idea?

Why not just put the money away in an ING or Emigrant account where you earn interest? You have to be disciplined in your approach to saving either way. You might as well earn interest on your savings.

I agree with PricePlus. Stash away money in a separate interest-bearing account. Set up automated direct deposits into that account so you never have to think about it.
Another idea to consider. Early in the year, make a list of what you want to buy for people. Keep your eyes open throughout the year for the best deals on those items. Then just store them in your closet until Christmas comes around. |
