Spilled beer exposes fake money, leads to arrests
HALIFAX - His mistake was trying to pass funny money in a beer-soaked bar.
Alkarim Nasser, 19, and two others accused of distributing $16,000 in counterfeit bills around Halifax last winter were nabbed by waiters after the ink on the notes started to smudge. "It was the waitresses and staff who detected the bills because water and moisture affects the inkjet process and makes the ink run," Const. Dana Drover, a financial crime expert with Halifax police, told Nasser's sentencing hearing Thursday. full story here
