A survey released Monday by the U.S. Department of Commerce found the nation's weakened economy has drastically changed the way consumers blow their paychecks on useless crap.

The report suggests the lingering recession has forced Americans to make tough choices when it comes to pissing away their earnings, as millions struggle to find new, and often challenging, ways to be completely irresponsible with their finances...

Maybe humans haven't evolved enough to realize that you can't just live for today. Even wild animals cache their kills for a later meal or store away a few nuts for the winter.

Also, the widely reported drop in personal debt isn't really true. Most of that drop is due to banks writing off uncollectible debt and closing people's credit lines. Only about 1/3 of the drop is actually due to people repaying debt.
