The article definitely gets a good point across, and the multiple 'options' are good for people to consider. What I really think is important is that you should know what's a truly important expense vs. what you could/would cut if necessary. In my budget (if you can truly call it that--it's really just an estimation of what I expect to spend each month), I've prioritized each 'category' of expenses, and if something were to happen to my income, or if I suddenly had to cut my peripheral spending, I know exactly where those cuts would occur, and also where they would not occur. It's an approach that is very reassuring, at least IMO.

The article had one line that I think the people on this forum all agree on ... it's not that people can't cut stuff out, it's that they won't.
