My parents weren't totally adults during the depression...they were in their teens...but they were savers and did without stuff until they could afford it. I think my mindset is a lot like theirs since I hate throwing things away, wasting things, and try to live below our means. The depression made a big impact on my parents who in turn, made one on me.

Isn't that the truth! No matter how much I put away, it seems so far away from what I'll want/need for anything in the future.

I actually think this is one reason people don't save. People reason that by the time they've saved up enough money for (whatever), it will be out of style/out-dated/no longer needed/etc. So they just buy it now, whether with cash or on credit. Not to say this is a good line of thinking, simply that it is prevalent.....

I was raised by my grandparents who were adults during the depression....I learned a lot from gram!!

I think that is why I have a larger need to save than the average joe.
