Death of the $1 Double Cheeseburger

For fast-food customers, the best deals in these difficult economic times may be those meals and snacks priced right around $1. Under the golden arches, for instance, eight items, including a double cheeseburger, make up the dollar menu.

Wholesale fast-food prices are rising even faster than retail prices."The dollar menu's a huge thing when I've got six kids," said Maria Kovacevich, a McDonald's customer in Chicago. "So, I can come in and, for $25 or $30, everyone can get a sandwich, drink, fries."

While consumers have seen the prices of milk and meat products rise in the supermarket aisles for months, fast-food chains have stood against wider trends. But McDonald's today said that higher wholesale prices are forcing the fast-food chain to change its menu, meaning customers may soon get less for a buck...

The pricing didn't make sense anyway. A single cheeseburger was $1.19, and a double cheeseburger was $.99.

BK in the Bay Area is now charging 40 cents per BBQ sauce. Seriously! Seems it would be easier to raise the price of their chicken. ?????

I usually only run to fast food for lunch and keep sodas stocked at work. I think I'll start stocking BBQ sauce as well.

How about spending even less and cooking something decent at home rather than polluting your kids' bodies with that garbage.

I'd love to see the end of the dollar menu. All it does is encourage people to eat more crap.

All I can say is I spent $13 on a salad today and it was so good I thought I could see heaven. I've never enjoyed a McD's meal like that. Funny, everybody else is cutting down on restaurant eating these days and I seem to have increased eating out.
