Some interesting new ideas as well as some tried and true techniques. I never thought of buying gift cards for a big purchase or making a sleeve to remind about the credit card.

One trick my wife and I do is use a "piggy bank". everytime we come home (even if it is several times a day) we empty all of our loose change in a bucket. About twice a year we roll it and use it to buy various items.

Default Freezing Credit Cards

Why all the fuss about freezing credit cards? Two minutes under hot water and Taa Daa they are thawed and ready to be used. If you really don't want to use them hide them in the back yard. Dig ten similar holes and only put the card(s) in one. In two weeks you won't remember which hole is which and you will get excercise trying to find the card(s). Actually, what we did was cut them up. When we needed them for the "emergency" purchase we just called the company and requested a new one to be issued. If you really need the item(s), it will still be there when the card comes. Knowing you will have to wait for the new one to come will really define the importance of the purchase.

I really like the useless purchases list. What a great idea.

Thanks for that.I have been using the 24 hour buying rule, but the 30 day rule sounds even better.
