Default Wedding Gift Etiquette Guide

SmartMoney article on Wedding Gift Etiquette Guide:

The Wedding Gift Etiquette Guide (Deal of the Day: Personal Finance) at SmartMoney.com

Having been invited to a couple of weddings of distant family -- one gal was a cousin's daugher whom we had never met -- we bought her something from the registry and sent it before the wedding which was almost a year ago and we still have not received a thank you note.

That is odd...but does it really bother you?

It drives me crazy when I give a gift to a "young person" and don't get a thank you note, or the note I get is so terse and impersonal that you just know that a parent nagged them into writing it.

Am I old fashioned?

Yeah, that really bugs me when someone can't be bothered to send a thank you note for a gift- especially when they could sure send the announcement/invitation out quick enough!

I sent a wedding gift to my mom's ex's DD a few months back. I'm very disappointed to have not gotten so much as a 1 line thank you card. It's not necessarily the whole propriety thing either- if they don't acknowledge it, how do I know that they even got it? If they didn't get it, I could have filed a claim with Fed Ex. It seems awkward to contact them to ask, so I haven't.

Makes it hard for me to buy the next gift, unless it's someone I'm very close to.

It's gratifying to know we aren't the only ones who are disappointed when we don't receive a thank you note. That's not the reason we gave the gift, but it would be nice to have some appreciation shown.

An invitation to a wedding of someone you have never met also burns me. I received an invitation to the wedding of a neighbors daughter from another marriage. Didn't know she existed. She didn't live on this street.
