Default Eco-attack!

Three seven-figure dream homes went up in flames early Monday in a Seattle suburb, apparently set by eco-terrorists who left a sign mocking the builders' claims that the 4,000-plus-square-foot houses were environmentally friendly.

I am continually amazed, though never any longer surprised, at the sheer idiocy that exist among my fellow citizens in this country.

I wonder how burning at all helps our environment? Those houses have so many flame retardants, pressed wood, etc. How can setting a fire help the environmen?. These people are looneys and extremeist.

Well, I'm a little skeptical. Supposedly the sign attributing the action to Earth Liberation Front was written in spray paint (!) on a sheet. Does that match ELF's M.O.?

Housing prices are slipping nationally. Were the investors on these houses looking at a potential loss if they had to lower their prices? Fewer people can get loans for houses that are actually over their heads financially. And these $1,500,00 houses were not selling. They sat unsold for months. Am I not the only one who remembers that in the recession of the 1980's houses and commercial property both were being burned (arson!) apparently to collect insurance money? Just because the houses were "green" doesn't mean that the building company was of higher ethical standards than the next builder.

I hope the fire department can have a thorough and revealing investigation. One incendiary device did not work, so perhaps it will reveal evidence that the arsonists were counting on being destroyed.

I feel sorry for the nearest neighbors. So often the neighboring houses are damaged in a fire, too I would have been biting my nails, to say the least. Plus the risk to firefighters and the use of public money to extinguish these fires!
