Inflation hits 100,000% in Zimbabwe
The official rate of annual inflation in Zimbabwe has rocketed past the 100,000 percent barrier, by far the highest in the world, the state central statistical office said Thursday. Second-place Iraq has inflation of just 60 percent, according to international estimates.

If there is ever a living example of a complete idiot who is in charge of a nation, Robert Mugabe is it. I mean, it's not my typical policy to verbally assault any public figure. In fact, I do everything I can to be fair and objective. However, this man is just... beyond stupid. Seriously, an economic policy based on sheer paranoia and delusions, backed by an iron fist and state-sanctioned violence on its own people.
And when criticized for causing his own country's self-destruction? He blames it on the critics with conspiratorial nonsense!
How this man is still in charge remains a mystery to me.

Obviously one had better have something other than money with which to procure needs.

I think it is the iron fist state sanctioned violence that keeps him in control..but hush up, or USA will send over folks like my bro (currently in Iraq) to 'fix it'...

AFP: Zimbabwe inflation soars to 231 million percent
Quote:
HARARE (AFP) — Zimbabwe's annual inflation rate soared to 231 million percent in July, a state newspaper said Thursday, confirming the daily hardships of a nation driven into poverty and trapped in a political impasse.
Staggering increases in the price of bread and cereals were the main reason for the jump from the June rate of 11.2 million percent, the Herald said, citing the Central Statistical Office.
Shortages of wheat are driving up bread prices, the paper said, compounding the struggle to avoid hunger in a country where the United Nations estimates more than five million people -- nearly half the population -- will need food aid.
On a monthly basis, the paper said prices skyrocketed by 2,600.2 percentage points in July, compared to 839.3 percent the month before.

2600.2%/month is the same as 11.1%/day or prices more than double in a week. inflation wise - last 95 years in US(2236%) is less than a month in Zimbabwe. is it even possible to earn double your income in a week?
I wonder what the rate was just on bread and cereal - 5,000%/month? 10,000%? 100,000%?
can anyone fathom living there?

Perfect example of a brutal dictatorship. I'm curious about N.Korea and some of the other "iron-fist" countries. We complain about the price of things. At least we have those things to buy and they don't cut your tongue out when you complain. That is a country in need of a major coup.
