Default Sidestepping the Do-Not-Call list

According to Consumerist, DirecTV is calling people on the Do-Not-Call list... Not to sell them something, but to remind them they are on the Do-Not-Call list and let them know they are missing out on great deals. LOL.

Wow. That's ballsy.

Maybe someone should walk up to the head of marketing at DirecTV and punch him in the face. Not to actually do it. Just to let him know how it would feel IF they actually did it.

Poundwise, that is hilarious!

"Hi are you the head of marketing?"

"Who are you? Why did you break down my office door?"

"Sir, I noticed that you are on the 'Do-Not-Punch' list. I'm not here to hit you, but I just wanted to remind you that you are missing out on some great deals on cold packs. Right now, if you buy 2 cold packs, you can get the 3rd one for free! You know, in case somebody did decide to punch you in the face."

Hehehe.

One of the comments on the original site was to the effect of: How far could this be taken... Do we need a Do-Not-Call-To-Remind-Me-I'm-On-The-Do-Not-Call-List. And then we might need a Do-Not-Call-To-Remind-Me-That-I'm-On-The-Do-Not-Call-Reminder List. And so on.

On a more serious side, many people who signed up for the beginning of the Do Not Call list are about to have their place on the list expired. You can sign up again, but if you start getting calls and don't know why, you might have fallen off the list (there is a time limit to being on the list).

My state had a Do Not Call list well before the federal one. It has been beautifully effective, and as far as I know does not expire. I keep "snitch forms" right in my telephone directory so that when I get one of those calls I record the details immediately and mail it off to the attorney general, volunteering to testify in court as well. The state AG has successfully prosecuted a bunch of these people, including four I have turned in. Of course, it takes a certain number of citizens corroborating the calls to even tip off the investigation. Otherwise, I suppose I could just turn in my business' competitor, claiming they illegally made sales phone calls.

I'm not on the federal DNC list. It has not been necessary.

Broken Arrow, too funny!

BA hilarious

I highly recommend asking for name and company (politely of course) to make sure there is a record of their pestering you.
