Default Record Thanksgiving Weekend Gas Prices

For those heading off in their car for the Thanksgiving weekend, you can expect to pay record prices for gas according to the US Energy Department. Although gas prices are far below the all-time weekly record of $2.06 a gallon set last May, they're the highest ever for the week of Thanksgiving. While the national average for unleaded gas prices actually fell 2.1 cents since last week to $1.948 a gallon, they're up a whopping 44 cents a gallon from a year ago. San Francisco tops the list of most expensive cities for gas at $2.32 a gallon.

According to AAA, it's expected that more than 37 million people will travel more than 50 miles from home over the Thanksgiving weekend, with more than 80% using their car.

While gas prices remain high, there are a lot of ways to cut down on your gas consumption. Basic gas saving tips range from keeping your tires inflated properly to driving at a slower pace. There are also some fun, uncommon ways you can save money on gas.

Jeffrey, I find it amusing that you are talking about the gas prices last Thanksgiving going up a whopping 44 cents! What will it be this year! We in Oklahoma have actually come down over the last couple of weeks but not as low as above. Oh what a difference a year makes!
