Default $2.5M check sent to the wrong person

$2.5M check wrongly sent to counselor - Yahoo! News from the Associated Press
MINNEAPOLIS - An errant computer keystroke led the state to accidentally issue a $2.5 million check to a school counselor.

The best part?

Walker, along with a man she lived with, allegedly bought a $500,000 certificate of deposit, funded two retirement accounts, bought a $500,000 Treasury bond, spent $5,500 on jewelry, $3,817 at Best Buy and $2,069 on limousine services, according to the criminal complaint.

If the 2.5 mil had actually been hers, I would've said she was pretty smart with it!

Interesting story. Maybe she'll be in less trouble since she didn't squander it all away.

I missed the part where the article pointed out that she was a moron.

Did she really think she could cash it and use the money and no one would ever care?

if she'd put it in a savings account she could've made a little interest on it, until it got claimed!

I agree. This person was moron. She showed intent to keep the money. This school counselor has issues with ethics.

If I got a 2.5 M check from my employer, are you suggesting it's unethical for me to attempt to keep it?

Yet the company would lay me off in a heartbeat if they had financial troubles? Where is the ethics in that (I do have a family).

caveat emptor

The difference is the big companies have money to lobby to get laws made in their favour.

This is kinda like when I got an email at work asking me to confirm the routing and bank account number for the proceeds from a real estate sale with my company. I was oh so tempted to say no its really this bank and routing number. Instead I told them they had the person, and directed them to the VP for the company that they mistook me for.

I get a lot of emails for him but that was the one that tempted me the most, I think it was a 45 million dollar real estate deal. It sucks having an honest streak sometimes.
