Default Rule 240

If you travel by plane this summer, here is something to remember if you have any problems with your flight: Rule 240. If your plane gets cancelled, delayed or you miss a connection, this is the rule that lets you know what you are entitled to for compensation. Rule 240 is actually different for each airline (it was once standard and called Rule 240 at that time, but even though each airline determines its own rules, it's still called Rule 240 by all). Here is what you need to do:

1. Always carry a copy of Rule 240 - You can get this at the airline's website.

2. Understand Rule 240 - Rule 240 usually applies to delays under the airline's control, but not ones like weather which it can't control.

3. If Problems Occur, Politely Insist On Rule 240 Compensation - Since you have the rules with you, you know what you should receive. Airlines may offer you less, but don't let them get away with it. Simply mentioning Rule 240 (so the staff knows you are aware of it) will usually get you exactly what you deserve.

By knowing your Rule 240 rights, you will greatly reduce any additional hassles when something does go wrong with your flights in the future saving both time and money.
