Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could get paid to be green? That is what RecycleBank is currently doing in Philadelphia (PA), Gloucester County (NJ) and Wilmington (DE). They are paying people to recycle. While currently limited to these three areas, they hope to expand to quickly to other areas across the United States.
To participate, all you have to do is sign up at their website. Once in the program, you receive a special recycle container which contains a bar code on it. The bar code is recorded by the recycling truck every time your recyclable material is picked up. You simply fill up your container with the recyclable goods on their list which includes all the basics you would expect such as newspapers, magazines, cardboard, cans, glass, etc. The amount of this material you recycle is then translated into "RecycleBank Dollars" with each pick-up which can be spent at participating stores. There are currently over 100 participating stores both on a national and on the local level. They include such big names as Staples, PetCo, Starbucks, Whole Foods, Target, Coca Cola, Patagonia to name just a few. The more you recycle, the more you earn although there is currently a 25 RecycleBank Dollars a month limit for recycling for the basic materials plus some bonuses such as ink cartridges and cell phones that can earn you more. For more information, you can go to the RecycleBank website. |

Wow, I've heard of things like this, but never for recycling. I know in places with a lot of sunshine, if you have solar panels you can sell electricity back to the power company. Glad to see companies are rewarding things like this.
