Best Time Of The Year To Second Hand Shop

If you are into second hand store shopping the end of December and early January is the time to head down there to get the deals. With the end of the year right around the corner, a lot of people will be cleaning out closets, basements and attics to get rid of stuff to deduct on their 2006 taxes. You can get some great items this time of year and the selection is usually much more extensive than at other times of the year.

You'll have to find out how long it takes your local store to get their newly acquired items out from the back and on the display floor. This is usually sometime between the first and second week in January, but it pays to find out exactly when they will be placing out items at your local store by asking one of the floor workers.

Some of my past finds at the beginning of the year include a beautiful leather jacket , an antique night stand and a set of Wedgwood display dishes. You may be surprised at the number of brand name articles that show up at these charity stores this time of the year.

So if you are clearing out some of your stuff this week to give away for the tax break, ask when all the current items coming in will start showing up on the main floor. It may be well worth your while to come back and take a look when they are available.

My local Salvation Army is open New Year's Day and EVERYTHING is 1/2 price.

I have just enough stuff now for work, however I did pop into a discovery shop yesterday and they have a bunch of name brand things, they must specifically look for them, for great deals. It was hard not to get anything.

Hmm.... that would make sense of the over abundance of things.

Unfortunatly I haven't seen an event like that @ Goodwill, wich is over priced here in the first place.

Though my aunt & uncle patron alot of thrift stores that do discount days, BUT they are usually in not so nice neighborhoods.
