Default Less Credit Card Junk Mail

For those that get more credit card offers in the mail than they like, you may start seeing less of them. The credit cards companies have discovered that mass mailings to your home are not near as effective as they have been in the past. A mass credit card mailing in 1992 would receive responses of 28 for every 1000 offers sent. Those same 1000 offers in 2005 only received responses from 3 people. Credit card offers through the mail have sagged about 20% this year. The downside of less credit card offers going out is that the response rates have been increasing meaning you may see more credit card offers coming again in the future.

While the good news is that you may see less credit card junk mail at least for now, the credit card companies will still be peddling their wares hard in other areas. Look for credit card offers to be more prevalent online, at ATMs and at bank branches.

While credit cards do have a lot of advantages, these advantages are only worthwhile when you pay off your credit card balance in full each month. if you do decide to get a credit card, you are usually much better off doing your own research and picking a credit card that is right for your spending habits to take full advantage than applying for credit cards that come in the mail or through another advertising means

For those that get more credit card offers in the mail than they like, you may opt out so that the credit reporting agencies don't sell your info in marketing lists.

I used to cross my address out on those letters and put return to sender on all my unwanted mail. That seemed to cut down the junk.

we receive about 3 offers a week to balance transfer money... mostly from chase and citi...
now, i was told by a friend in the know, not to opt out of the mailings.. and i did not..... also, she said if i received the invoice online to my bank account for direct pay, i would receive less offers.... i did not do this...
i still receive snail mail invoices, i pay online from my bank bill pay service, i did however, sign up for invoice notice when it is due and when it is paid notification, that is sent to my email addy...
so, maybe now they are changing this procedure to solicit offers via, email, or epay and such...
thanks for posting this jeffrey.... need to know info... for me.....i like info i can use...

I noticed that the amount of offers I recieve increased ten-fold after I applied for a new card a few months ago.

Why? I did some research before opting out, and didn't find any disadvantages.
