Super Suppers and Dream Dinners

While the least expensive way to feed your family is to make your dinner at home, here is an interesting option for those that find they default for dinners out much too often. There are a number of new establishments that let you prepare most of your meals for a month in about 2 hours time. Two of the better known are Super Supers and Dream Dinners.




Both these places work basically the same. You pick your meals for the month from their menu and then set a time to go and make the meals. All the ingredients for the meals you want are already out and ready to mix with the recipe there for you to follow. This allows you to make small ingredient changes to fit the tastes of your family rather than having someone prepare the meal for you.

Once you are done, you slip the meals into packages and you're done. The clean-up is left to the staff. The meals have been created so that they can be frozen and then all you have to do is stick them in the oven for your meal to be ready.

While they cost more than cooking from scratch (meals are about $3 - $4 per serving), they are less than eating out, they save a great deal of time. For those with busy schedules this may be a good alternative to making healthy meals rather than opting for prepared food.

You could go even cheaper, if you're lucky, by joining a community kitchen in Canada. Think of a community kitchen as Dream Dinners / Super Suppers in the non-profit setting.

One of the ritzier eateries locally allows the diner to select and his/her own meat.

Aaaah . . . Am I missing something here? I thought the point of eating out was to let someone else do the cooking.
