A recent Coinstar 2005 Gift Card Survey ranked the type of gift cards people like to receive according to overall popularity. The results were as follows:

1. Universal Gift Cards – These can be used like a credit card at a variety of stores and restaurants. Because of their flexibility, universal gift cards are popular across the board, from young adults to seniors. This was the most popular choice of any type of card among seniors.

2. Department Store Gift Cards – Due to the range of options these cards give recipients, they are popular with all age groups, although slightly less popular with men than women.




3. Dining Gift cards – These are slightly more popular with men and higher income households, although more than half (55 percent) of all respondents said they would appreciate this type of card.

4. Clothing Gift Cards – Young women love getting these cards; they are least popular with seniors.

5. Electronics Gift Cards – These cards are most popular with young men and least popular with seniors.

6. Entertainment Gift Cards – A great choice for people from 18 to 54, these are slightly less popular among those 55 to 64, and least popular among those over 65 years of age.

7. Book Store Gift Cards – These are a safe choice across the board.

8. Home/Office Gift Cards – There are most popular with those 18 to 34.

9. Travel Gift Cards – A good choice for those 18-34, these cards are slightly more popular with men than with women.
