Major Spam

If you were one of the unlucky bloggers to be hit with major spam, please accept Nate's and my apologies - while I know it was bad, it was 100 times worse for us. The filters we set blocked 90% going to your blogs, but they filled up ours - I had several hundred in my mail at one point. Nate will be working tomorrow on another filter to ward off this last wave. Thanks for you patience as we deal with this.

It was weird spam, too - were there any URLs anywhere in it?

Yes - in their user name. That is why it got through - there weren't any hyper linked URLs in the text portion and the bots just kept cranking them out over and over again. The ones that don't have their user named hyper linked are used to let the bots know where to spam I think - they are like a homing device that says this blog isn't deleting spam so it's a good place to spam more.

Thanks for the note. I was wondering what the deal was. I only got about 30 or so, but that was plenty!

Okay, Nate put in a new line of defense which should limit the the amount you receive. If you're still getting a large amount, please let us know so we can make adjustments.

Forum members should not see a difference at all in posting when you're signed in. When you aren't signed in, you must now spell out the number "6" as part of the submit process. Since this is a question that bots shouldn't recognize, it should stop them for being able to post.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed that this solves the problem from now.
