new comments

Nate, is there a way for us to be notified when we have new comments? Maybe when we log in to our blogs, something could pop up and say "You have __ new comments" and then point us to them...or something like that. Sometimes if people comment on one of my older posts, I don't notice.

I have my blog set so that I get an email at my gmail account when new comments are posted. You can set this up in My Control Panel --> Settings.

It's a good workaround if Nate can't do your idea (which I like, btw )

Does it tell you which entry the comments are posted under? Or does it just tell you that new ones are there?

It tells you which entry and gives you a link to the entry as well.

Sorry...been busy trying to get the site working correctly again...yes, use the email notification as it will work better than a web based system. We discussed setting it up, but if you come to the journals read some and then leave without going to your blog, you miss the comments - the email notification is more reliable that you will see every comment made.

Ok, I must be missing something. What do I need to select in settings in order to be notified of my blog comments? I already get e-mail notification of new posts in the discussion area, but I don't see what I need to check to add blog notification.

Jodi, the settings page Jen is talking about is in the blogs area. The same place you add a new entry, look for a 'Settings' link. Infact if you are logged in to the blogs, this link should work (even though it says nate in it) http://blogs.savingadvice.com/nate/cpanel/settings.php

I like the email new comments function, but is there a way to consolidate your comments in a list? I'm pretty sure I haven't read all my comments especially if someone commented on a very early entry.
