Question Question about the Journals

Are these supposed to be our musings on money/spending?

When I first started reading, that's what it seemed like, but now I'm not so sure anymore. They seem to be taking on a much more "private" tone and there are times that I feel as though I'm infringing on people's privacy.

I'd like to start my own entries, but I'd like a little clarification as to the purpose of the journals, if there is one.

The journals are just that - journals. The main purpose is to write about your relationship with money - what you're goals are, how you're doing, what your thoughts are, etc. You are free to write about what you want, but the overall theme is "saving money / personal finance" There is nothing that says that you need to write about anything private. If you want to make an entry that is private that you don't want others to read, there is that option.

The best approach is to begin jotting down whatever you feel comfortable with. There is nothing that says you need to go any farther with what you talk about than you want. It's supposed to be a fun little project that helps you keep focused.

Well, I got married at age 20, a long time ago. I did not really know how to handle money or pay bills, so I used an old fashioned system.. the envelope system. I got paid every week. so I put one fourth of my rent, my electric, my heat, my phone, my car payment, etc. in an envelope every week. I never cheated and never borrowed. I have never paid a bill late and I am still doing the same thing 40 years later. I also figure out my once or twice a year bills like house taxes, house and car insurance, etc. and put away 1/52 of that every week too. But before I put anything in the envelopes, I put 10% in the envelope that says savings. It works for me!

I enjoy the journals here. More personable than blog sites, plus we are all among some really good people. Our online family!
