Maintaining and caring for your investments is the best way to optimize performance and guarantee the highest resale value. Unless you are among the fortunate few car owners who purchase a new vehicle every year, providing basic maintenance to this major investment is critical - especially when it comes time to sell or trade it in.

Learning to maintain your car will go a long way to extending its life, maintaining fuel efficiency and increasing its resale value. MAACO Auto Painting and Bodyworks, the world's largest provider of auto painting and body repair, offers the following car care maintenance tips to help keep you rolling in style for as long as possible:

A Superior Exterior: If your last cross-country road trip took you on one too many gravel roads, there are inexpensive ways to disguise the flaws that might now exist on your car's body. Most people think that repairing paint chips and scratches requires a large investment into an already aging vehicle. This definitely can be true for car owners who let the damage sit for a long period of time. However, the experts at MAACO Auto Painting suggest that having the repairs done sooner than later can save you from having to strip the entire surface of your car, not to mention losing hundreds of dollars. So, if you're planning on keeping your car for a few more years, the best plan for exterior care is immediate action.

Attention to the Interior: It may seem obvious that vacuuming your car on a regular basis is the easiest way to preserve the interior of your car. But vacuuming alone will not remove seasons worth of mud, salt, sand and dirt that is ground into your carpet floor. Having your carpeting and upholstery regularly shampooed, or doing it yourself, is the best way to keep dirt and grime from settling into your car's interior -- permanently.

Under the Hood: While problems on the interior and exterior of your car are something that most people can detect with their naked eye, maintenance under the hood requires a little more expertise than the majority of car owners can bring to the table. But, we can all be responsible for finding and providing that care to the engine, tires, brakes and any other part that requires regular maintenance.

There are ways of preventing minor problems on your vehicle before a breakdown, even if you're not a mechanic.

Basic Maintenance: Check the fluids in your car regularly. Almost everyone knows that most vehicles require an oil change every 3000 miles, but other fluids such as brake fluid, antifreeze and even windshield washer fluid should also be checked regularly to help maintain a healthy and safe car.

Regularly check your tire pressure, or have someone do it for you. Running your tires over or under-inflated poses a safety hazard for you and other drivers, not to mention the increase on your car's fuel consumption. Also, check your tires weekly for stone and gravel that may be stuck in the tread, and be sure to remove this debris.

Last, but not least, become friends with your car. In other words, get to know it -- how it sounds, how it feels and how it drives. When changes or problems occur, they will be more apparent if you know how your car runs when it's happy and healthy. Attending to a problem early will ensure the continued safety of your vehicle and your passengers as well as limiting repair costs.
