what great ideas - we have a lemon tree (among others I like to grow my own to save money) and always have loads left over and end up giving them away

Also, if your body is very acidic; you can use lemon juice in water to alkanilize your body.
I buy lemons when they are on sale and freeze them into cubes as one poster says above. I also add some into chicken soup. It gives it a really distictive flavor.
You can save alot of money if you can find vendors on the side of the road or from the homes selling lemons.

Are they hard to grow? My husband loves lemons but MAN they are pricey. .50 each. and if you use three or four to a glass of water you are talking an expensive glass of water. I would grow one if it is fairly easy.

Seeing that your post is from Illinois; I don't think you can grow lemons there. That is more of a California, Florida thing. Yes, they are expensive. That's why you have to buy them in bulk when they are on sale and freeze them. You can get an idea of how much lemon juice is in 1 ice cube when you squeeze them.

Lemons smell amazing, too!
I use vinegar to clean everything.

My apartment gets very dry in the winter. In addition to a humidifier, I often simmer water on the stove on cold evenings. One day I threw my orange peels in the pot. Fantastic! I use lemon or orange and it freshen the entire apartment. I save peels and leftovers in the freezer so that they are ready when I want them.

You'll love it! Citrus is such a clean scent - not perfumy - which is needed with the windows closed for most of the winter. I use many different things - cinnamon, vanilla extract - but citrus is my favorite.

Squeeze a little lemon juice into a bowl of water to use as a rinse to keep fruit like apples from browning.

These are some VERY good tips, also what helps is to squirt some lemon or lime onto a scortched on greasy pan and it helps so much better than dish soap.
