Default Care For Outdoor Equipment - Saving Money Tips

Care For Outside Items In Spring & Summer

1. Keep all items stored outside out of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight will quickly fade color and can cause extensive sun damage.

2. Take note of any damage resulting from over the winter to any yard equipment, tools and surfaces. This will help you avoid similar damage next year.

3. Check hoses to make sure they are still in good working order. Store them in an area that is out of direct sunlight. Keep them coiled without knots or kinks which can damage them prematurely.

4. When finished using hoses, take any nozzles, sprinklers or sprayers off the end. Make sure they are clean and store them in the garage or shed until the next use.

5. Check metal yard furniture for rust or paint peeling. If found, repair and apply another coat of paint or protection immediately.

6. Make sure that plastic lawn furniture and seats are placed out of the sun. Plastic will damage quickly in the sun over an extended period.

7. Check wood decks, fences, benches and tables for wear. If a fresh coat of paint or weatherproofing is needed, be sure to add it.

8. If you have an outside barbecue, cover it or store it on the side of the house in a shaded area.

9.Large garden tools should be stored in a shed or garage if possible. If that isn't possible, larger tools such as wheelbarrows, buckets and other containers should be stored in shaded areas upside down.

10. Check metal hinges and latches on gates. Use a little oil if they are rusted or not moving freely.
