I think I'm about ready to give up on ING. I really thought they would raise rates, but I just don't see it happening so it looks like it's time to move what I have left in that account to another bank.

personally i'm very pleased with Grand Yield Direct (http://www.grandyielddirect.com). currently they offer daily compounding, interest deposited monthly, and an APY of 5.27%.

Of course, the method of compounding is not relevant when considering the APY. It is already factored in to the yield.

Still, Grand Yield Direct from Apple Bank looks like a good account. So does the Amboy Direct Premium account.

pundwise is correct, how it's compounded doesn't matter when one has the calculated APY. don't know why i prefer daily compounding, it's likely just a mental 'thing'.

with that said, i find it also nice to know when interest is deposited, and GYD is on the last calendar day of the month as opposed to sometime in the beginning of the next month.

I am just sticking with my local bank which pays 5.25% and I can "visit" whenever I want to.

Its always good to know what you think about a particular subject matter. You are very knowledgeable about all that involves money.

Anyone know why ING has fallen so far behind the other online banks with their interest rates?

I think because people are so lazy and keep money with them. The only way they would ever become competitive again is if people wake up and switch the highest offering.

GMAC Bank is offering a good rate at the moment. I have also used Virtual Bank.

Okay does anybody else actually think ING is still the greatest online bank since there are by far much better banks, I personally prefer Emigrant Direct. Has time changed anyone else's opinion on ING?

I love my ING account. It's so easy to use....that HSBC was a hassle. I also have the ING checking account and I love it! I can tranfer money back and forth immediately and checking account earns interest so that's a bonus.

I love that it's paperless. To hell with checks I say!

I don't know that I would call HSBC a hassle. They are as slow as molasses, though. FNBO is slow also.

I just closed my ED savings account andmy ING account is lying dormant until they get some truly competive rate. Suprisingly, the local HSBC and Citibank branches offer savings account rates better than both online banks. I'd rather drive to the bank(s) in person and make a deposit at the ATM machine which is credited instanly to my account(s) than to wait for three days before I see a deposit credit. In other words, I've given up with online savings entirely.

Damn. I miss when these two were trying to outdo one another. Now both pay hardly anything...
