Books on chosing mutual funds (other than index funds)

Most of the books out there seem to recommend investing in index mutual funds.

I'm looking for another point of view. Has anyone read a good book that describes what to look at when comparing and choosing non-index funds?

Well, I have the "Dummy's Guide to Mutual Funds". I even got it on sale at half off from a warehouse bookstore. It's the first and so far the only book I've ever read regarding mutual funds. Everything else is from the internet.

Even for those who do not plan to stray from index funds, I do highly recommend understanding the basics. Of course, to do so means to understand the basics of the all of investing.

Since I have read only one book on it, I really don't have anything else to compare it to. However, I will say that once you read that book, all mutual funds in general will make just a bit more sense after that.

No books to recommend, but I would read Money and Kiplinger's magazines. Each does an annual mutual fund review issue that is packed with useful info and fund ratings. Kiplinger does it in September. I don't remember what month Money does theirs.
