reward credit cards

I already have a citi dividend and an american express from costco. I saw this discover gas card that gives 5% not just on gas but on auto repairs also. Has anyone used this card and think if it is worthwhile to get. I've gotten a nice amount of money from the citi and american express card in the past year.

Check out Chase's cards. My wife and I use one of their cards that provides 5% back on all gas, groceries, and drugstore purchases, 1% back on everything else, with a cap of $300/year in cash back per card. It's the best deal out there I've found.

IMO: The cash back percentages sound good but that cap is pretty lame.

I have both a Chase and a Discover rewards card and I must say I like the Discover card SO much more. The Discover card has a better rewards system (5% on everyday purchases) and "special incentives" (ie around the holidays). I bank online and I find the Discover web site to be easier to navigate and overall better.

I only wish that Discover was accepted more places - I have had 1-2 incidents where it wasn't accepted. If that wasn't the case, I would consider getting rid of my Chase card.

Well, considering we each have a card, we'd have to spend $12,000/year in gas and groceries to hit the limit. We're nowhere near $1,000/month in food and gas - less than half that. Few people would go significantly over the limit in a year.

I got back $550 on my american express this summer. We are using a gm mastercard now, and I get a check whenever I hit $100. No cap!

I use the Chase 5% card as well but I believe it has been grandfathered. Chase isn't issuing new ones.

The thing that interestd me about the discover gas card was that you could use it for auto repairs up to $1200 per year and was wondering if anyone had experience using that card. Since my car is about 18 years old now, I have been spending between 500-1000 for the past few years to keep it running and thought getting 5% back on car repairs would be a nice thing.

We charge all the building materials we use in building houses, so we have a good balance that we pay off every month.

I have a discover card but I only get 1% on all purchases.

That seems like a lot of money to be putting into a car that old. You could probably buy a decent used one for a few grand that is much newer. I paid $4,000 for mine about 3 years ago and it's a 1995. Haven't had to spend much on repairs.

I have a discover that every couple of months you can get %5 back on different things and there has been no problem with it sounds like a good deal to me

When I signed up for that card the % back was only at 5% for a month or so, then it all went down to 1%. I switched to the Citibank visa and it's 5% at all those permanently. The cashback limit is about the same.

Nope, you must be thinking of some other card. My card provides 5% back on gas, groceries, and drugstore purchases with no limited amount of time. As another poster said, they may have stopped offering this card and only some people are now "grandfathered" in - it's a great deal.

I went back yesterday to reapply to that credit card since I think I canceled it a few years ago. I'll see what the rate is if I get accepted.

Yes, I went and looked at the website and that's what I have too. I'm happy with it, but for a while there I was switching credit cards for the best offers.
