haha, you guys are funny on here. I by default thought it was a guy for some strange reason, but I did not mean, 'man' in the literal sense to be honest. But if I knew for a fact it was a lady, I probably would not have used the word, "Man". Strange right?

If it helps any, I didn't know how many on here are women either.

In fact, I was rather shocked that there are so many... to the point that they may be the majority here.

I wonder why that is?

In my experience it is the the women who take care of the bills, saving etc. That could explain why there are a lot of girls on the site.

Go Girls!

Now that you've mentioned it, I can't think of a single guy I know of in real life that is interested in being fiscally responsible...!

I thought they just raised the FDIC coverage not too long ago to $250,000 (not that it would matter to most Americans)

Well, you don't know me IRL but I'm a guy and VERY interested in personal finance and living frugally and below our means. And I handle all the finances in our home. DW is perfectly capable of doing so, but she knows that I enjoy it and do it quite well.

Unlike you, Broken Arrow, with most of our friends it is the guy who is managing the finances.

Yes, but only for FDIC-insured accounts held in retirement plans.

Well, I handle all the money in our house! I think putting $300,000 in 3 seperate accounts each titled differently would be my best option. His, hers and Ours!!!

I hope I did not give the impression that men are financially irresponsible. Of course such a beast exists, and some of them are on this forum. All I had meant is that I haven't encountered any men who are financially responsible in real life yet. That's all. Don't know why. Limited experience I guess.

I am a man, but I must agree with you. Women are more responsible financially in general. Generally, we make more $$$, but we are the ones with little in our bank accounts as apposed to women. I am trying to become a man who is financially responsible, so I am definitely for the male cause. Maybe us men will catch up with the ladies.

I am sure that you will!! My husband is not financially irresponsible, he is just too busy working to take care of finances. When we got that $3000 check the other day, he did ask me what i was going to do with it. I told him, put it in our savings, of course!!

This is a good question for me.. cuz my husband and I don't believe in investing in mutual funds or the stock market.. unless in a company which does not sell or take interest. Nor sells pork, alcohol, or ciggerates.. Or anything harmful.

We are thinking of buying a house and keeping the one we live in for rent.. Not sure if we should go for the lower cost house of 132k or 200k?? AS were only starting up with 9k in the bank at the moment.

Anyone have ideas on what to do with money.. other than leaving it to sit in the bank?

If it is cash you need within a year, i still say I will stick with banks. sometimes, I need $20,000 or 30,000 that day. It is the fastest way to get the money, write a check at the bank. One of my accounts is savings and the other is a money market that I can write checks on.

Just curious, have you found any companies that meet your criteria?

None of my business, Ima, but what do you need $20,000 or 30,000 for regularly on such short notice!?
