Default How often do you check your holdings?

I'm fairly new to the boards, so just trying to gauge everyone's habits. I've read many threads talking about long term investing but at the same time, people mentioning how the current market situation has affected them during the past week, or past month.

So do you hover over your portfolio, checking it's value every day (or more) or do you truly have a long term view and just check in every month or every quarter?

Personally, unless a fund or company I invest in has some major news, I don't follow the day to day movements of the market or of my portfolio. This is all money I'm not planning to touch for about 20 years. Whether or not it was up or down yesterday really doesn't matter much.

I "see" my data everyday as I maintain my day to day finances in Money but I don't act on it all that frequently.

I don't currently have any investments outside of my retirement accounts to follow and fret over but when I reach that point, yeah, I can imagine I'll be one of "those" guys.

I check the statements 3-4 times a week, but just out of curiosity. I like to let dollar cost avg'ing and dividend reinvestments do their thing.

I check almost daily, but I don't look at specific investments. I just look at total account balances through Yodlee (which I access through my Wachovia account). If the account balances shoot up or down, I'll actually log into my investment accounts to see what's going on, but since I'm such a buy-and-holder, it's mostly curiosity that makes me look. It's not like big spikes or dips are going to cause me to sell.

I generally check my mutual funds and stocks the first day of the month. I keep a written record month to month. That comes in handy when I am asked to do a financial statement, which just happened yesterday.
