Ima, if only I had a nickel for each time you asked how much a bank is paying...

GMAC pays 4.75% on its money market account and 5.30% on a 1-year CD.

MyMoneyBlog is owned by a guy named Jonathan.

The new HSBC rate is quite disappointing. I was hoping after a complicated signup I'd get to keep my money there for longer than 6 months...seems like every 6 months a new bank will out do the other. GMAC CD looks pretty good from over here...

Ima

Even if HSBC had matched GMAC at 4.75%, I would still go the GMAC route. The reason is the ACH transfers are reportedly very fast, you get check-writing privileges, and GMAC reimburses foreign ATM fees up to $6/month.

There is a $500 minimum balance and you get a hard credit pull the first time you open an account, but I'm fine with that.

I don't get this credit pull thing. Everyone's doing it these days...heck so even if you give them your money they'll do a credit pull on you, something's wrong with this picture.

I think ED will increase their rate to 4.75% a day or two before the May 10 Fed meeting. I expect the Fed to increase the funds rate to 5%.

I opened an account with Emigrant about a month ago. I keep waiting for them to increase. Been at 4.5% for too long. I'm confident they will before the next Fed meeting, they've always been ahead of the game. I also like E*Trade CD's right now (GMAC's are good too of course).
